BRENA THE CABIN
CABIN REFURBISHMENT
Site: San Roque de Riomiera, Cantabria
Phase: Execution project

This cabin located in the Pasiegos Valleys does not follow the typical typology of the Cabañas Pasiegas. It has the peculiarity of having the access gaps to the stable and hayloft on one of the side facades. This is because the cabin is actually made up of two parts. One that was formerly used as a home and the other as a straw store and stable for animals.
The aim of the rehabilitation project is to restructure the interior of the cabin so that it can function fully as a home, with a small workshop area located in the current cowhouse on the ground floor.
The cabin refurbishment is a very special intervention on Pasiego heritage, that's why the sustainable architecture are the way to focus the project. An intervention based on the fundamentals of bioclimatic design, the use of natural and environmentally responsible materials, as well as local suppliers with the aim of generating a positive impact on the economy of the area.
The refurbishment of this cabin will allow us to preserve part of this Pasiego heritage, both cultural and architectural, preserving its identity but also providing it with everything necessary to obtain the comfort and touch of modernity of the 21st century.
While the living-dining room is configured in such a way that it absorbs the entire height of the cabin, the bedroom with direct access to the outside balcony is elevated allowing the storage area to be located below.
